Herve Leger Resort 2013: What Modern Superheroines Would Wear
If our cities were endangered by some evil sociopath with world-ruling aspirations, we would rely
on superheroes for our salvation. But gone are the days of Black Widow, Storm and Emma Frost.
Nowadays we would be saved by stylish superheroines who would swap their latex unitards for
body concious bandage-strip dresses. Herve Leger would definitely be their favourite designer,
allowing them to look sharp and still be comfortable enough to save the world on a daily basis.
The Resort 2013 Collection in particular, with vibrant colours and shades of metallic, looks like
the perfect match for any warrior woman. Even those sunglasses can work as a mask!

The Rodnik Band: London Clothing
![]() |
| Telephone booth coat, OVS Collection |
Philip Colbert is the Scottish designer behind playful The Rodnik Band fashion label.
His latest AW13 collection "It's Corgi Time" - full of doubledecker and black taxi bags, teacups and
other British motifs- has benefited from all the Jubilee hype we are going through these days. Looking through his other collections, it is easy to compare him with French designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac and American designer Jeremy Scott for the strong sense of fun his clothing possesses.
But this designer doesn't only make fashion, he is also involved in song writing and video making, he is a perfect mix of fashion, music and art. You know you have to love him when you read in the label's website that in the studio they listen to "The Sex Pistols, The Clash, Public Image Ltd and Marcel Duchamp lectures" and the Rodnik band woman "has the spirit of a young Peggy Guggenheim".

Balenciaga And The Infiltrators
Balenciaga's Fall 2012 collection is based on the idea of how all the different women working
in the imagined Balenciaga Inc would be dressed. Nicolas Ghesquière played with the
concept of corporate clothes, and even though the structural and architectural sense of clothes is
always this house's business, there would be a hierarchy in this all run by female company.
Bosses, middle management, interns...and also infiltrators!
These sneaky workers are precisely the ones who would be wearing this sweatshirts displaying sci-fi
imagery and slogans such like " Out of the blue" or "Join a weird trip". In the words of the designer:
“They’re industrial spies, they’re here to take over the company!”

Gaultier Couture goes Amy
![]() |
| Jean Paul Gaultier with a model in the backstage. |
Jean Paul Gaultier declared that, in his opinion, Amy Winehouse was the woman of the year. So the designer has paid tribute to the sweeping singer in Paris. Eyeliner, polo shirts or pencil skirts couldn't not be present; and given that it's Gaultier, the collection went a little Madonna in some bits.
But let's not forget it was an Haute Couture show, it was Amy's Gaultier version.
This means it paired her british streetstyle with the french high fashion, her trashy pin-up inspiration with precious materials, the teddy girl with the corsets.

| First look of the show |
It is clear that Amy Winehouse has had quite an influence on fashion sector, her very personal style has been source of inspiration for many editorials, trends and outfits; she even collaborated with Fred Perry and designed a capsule collection herself. She's an icon, after all.

Prada, Baudelaire and the Actors
Half East Berlinesque, half Parisien, Prada Menswear F/W 2012 was worth a post, even though I normally don't write much about men fashion. Not only the tailoring, fabrics and style were impeccable, the Milan show featured great stablished actors among the models, such as Willem Dafoe, Adrien Brody, Gary Oldman, Timothy Roth (who slipped a smile)... Miuccia Prada welcome the applauses and the great ovation all the assistants gave to this magnificent designer.
She described this collection as a “historical memory” and "a way to express male vanity". And I found it also an hybrid between a powerful and serious man - represented by the oversized coats and military inspiration- and a dandy. The dandy claiming an aristocracy of spirit that should be reflected in external appearance. As Baudelaire would say "dandyism as the last flicker of heroism in decadence". This part of the inspiration would be represented by the dressing gowns and pocket squares.
Ultimately, a collection for men with strong character, long-standing style and an inner status struggle.

November Lookbook: Zara Risks
Looks like in Zara Woman they have finally decided to be a bit more audacious and drop the serious and minimalist (you can even say boring) style they had been using as a common pattern in their two last months' lookbooks.
This month they dare to take a little risk in the outfits by mixing prints and styles; even including a bit of a grunge inspiration in some of them, which would have typically been more likely to appear on the TRF line.
The result -though may not be made to satisfy most of the public as this brand normally tries to- is definitely a much more interesting and inspiring series of looks.
