Textile print designs by Salvador Dalí (left), Andy Warhol (middle) and Joan Miró (right) |
If you are into art -and even if you're not that much into it- you have heard about the work of many 20th century artists such as Matisse, Picasso, Warhol, Dalí, Miró, Steinberg... Probably the first thing that comes up to your mind are their paintings in canvas, paper or even photography. But they were part of a group of artists who helped erase the distinction between fine and applied art.
Artists' Textiles 1940-1976 (Geoff Rayner, Richard Chamberlain and Annamarie Stapleton)
is a book about the collaboration between artists and textile manufacturers which flowered
among textile companies in Britain, on the Continent and in America after the War.
Take a look inside of it with some sample pages:
In the book you can find 200 colour images -some of them never seen before- of these art
textiles turned into commercial clothing: a Miró dress, a Dalí tie... And even Picasso's opposition
to print his work in upholstery because "Picassos may be leaned against, not sat on".
If you' are interested in getting this book for your coffee table,
