I'll Make It Clear

2007 Collections, image from Kingdom of Style

Clear plastic is a material that has been used during several years -probably since 2007-
in collections by many designers to add an audacious detail to collections. It started just being
used in bags -Karl Lagerfeld was one of the precursors with his vinyl bags for Fendi and Chanel-.
But slowly, despite of being a material more relevant for raincoats and umbrellas,
plastic has started taking over shoes and many other pieces of clothing.

Plastic details and pieces are being more and more present in recent collections. Prada's Spring
2010 shoes and bags, Hussein Chalayan's bubbles dress, Céline's cloudy trench and 3.1
Phillip Lim's Spring 2012, just to name some. Latex, perspex, PVC, vinyl... almost every
designer has had an affair with plastic transparency, and now it is getting to the street style.

Susie Bubble, regular blogger of this trend

The boldest style stars like The Man Repeller, Susie Bubble or Vika Gazinskaya -let alone
Lady Gaga- have dared to accomodate this risky trend to their daily outfits with success.
So if you want to try how life in plastic is like too, you have a wide range of choices.
From watches and jewelry to flats, and even a clear Bitching and Junk Food skirt,
just like the one London's singer Lianne La Havas wore in one of her videos.

From top to bottom, from left to right:

Schurich small wallet, Topshop's rain coat, Deborah Lippmann nail polish,
Valentino clutch, Walmart's backpack, Miriam Salat ring, Maison Martin Margiela
ankle boots, Chanel clutch, Cutler & Gross optical glasses, NYC lip gloss, Topshop
VAST point shoes, Marni hat, Debenham's glitter sandals, Charlotte Olympia
box clutch, Prada slides, Macy's ballet flats, Debenham's bangle, Kenzo
bucket bag, Totes umbrella, Timex watch,  Modcloth sunglasses.
