Patti Smith Inspires Helmet Magazine #3 Story

Model Anna Albrekht gets into Patti Smith's skin, but this time the suits she'll be wearing
are signed by Balenciaga, Alexander McQueen and Ann Demeulemeester among others.
The pictures taken by Darren McDonald get their inspiration from The Dream of Life,
a 2008 documentary film by Steven Sebring about the proclaimed Godmother of Punk.

Get The Look: Goo

Sonic Youth's sixth album, Goo, has one of the most iconic covers of music history.
This early 90's wonder can be found in most record stores and, if you are a music lover,
I bet you have had it in your hands thinking if you should buy it in that moment or not.

But in those moments when you were pondering if you should finally add it to your brand-new record collection or leave it for another time you come across it, you probably didn't realise you were looking
at an artwork inspired by a photograph of the witnesses of a serial murder case.

Sonic Youth have always liked to rely their covers to artists: Richard Prince, Gerhard Richter,
Richard Kern, Mike Kelley... This time it was Raymond Pettibon's work, known for his
comic-like drawings with disturbing, ironic or ambiguous text. He based this work on a
paparazzi portrait of Maureen Hindley and David Smith, witnesses in the trial of Moors Murders.

If you feel like today it is all whirlwind, heat and flash and you want to dress appropiately for it,
and a dark bob wig to become a real kool thing.

Cat Walk

Mark Ruffalo and Scarlett Johansson for Vogue US

See Scarlett Johansson taking a tiger for a walk. Don't worry, it's not her new pet.
It's one of the shoots by Mario Testino is the photographer in charge for this shoots
for the latest Vogue US issue, clearly inspired by classic comedy Bringing Up Baby.

Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn in Bringing Up Baby

But who looks fiercer walking the big cat, the blonde sensation or Katharine Hepburn herself?

Nurse Dello Russo

The always in the limelight Vogue Japan editor covers the March issue of Interview Germany.
Photographed by Giampaolo Sgura wears Lanvin, Paco Rabanne...and Louis Vuitton S/S 2008.

Anna Dello Russo for Interview     ///     Country Nurse by Richard Prince

That collection was composed by 1950's style clear perspex nurse uniforms worn over bright coloured mini dresses worn with white nurses hats with a single red letter on the front, spelling out "Louis Vuitton". Inspiration for it probably became from Richard Prince's Nurse Paintings.

Julianne Moore for Haper's Bazaar     ///     Crazy Nurse #3 by Richard Prince

This" Louis Vuitton - Richard Prince" connection has also been used by Peter Lindbergh,
who portrayed Julianne Moore as art masterpieces in a great editorial for Harper's Bazaar.

Harper's Bazaar US-Turkey Connection

It's not the same, but it's quite the same...

On the left, Better Franke by Lachlan Bailey for Harper's Bazaar US.
On the right, Mini Anden by Koray Birand for Harper's Bazaar Turkey.

At first glance the styling is very different in both spreads: US one has a clear retro inspiration while the Turkey one has a more actual choice of clothes. But if you look twice, apart from being both February issues of the same magazine, you can find there's much more in common.

Like some of the poses the models strike, the composition of some shots, the swimming pool, the dark lips make-up, the California vibe -US' spread footage is Palm Springs and Turkey's spread is L.A.-.
Come on, you must have just seen the similarities by now as well.

Enough About Lana

The all-american popstar is apparently not happy with having got a modelling contract, singing at fashion events and getting covers - not only in music related publications but also this month's Vogue UK one- .
Now it seems like her elaborated style is also inspiration for editorials, just like this one starring French model Constance Jablonski photographed by Greg Kadel for Vogue Italia Beauty.

Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, and Ladies Prefer Pink Dresses

Marilyn Monroe, "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes"

William Travilla's design for Marilyn Monroe in that film has been the inspiration for dressed during years and years. Some of them as succesful as Madonna's Material Girl video, which was more of a reproduction of the scene in that same movie than a mere reference.

Madonna, "Material Girl"

Also actresses, and... yes, actors, choose this kind of dress to attend galas. Like drag James Franco presenting The Oscars or Natalie Portman's Lanvin choice for the Golden Globe 2012 Awards.

"Everybody should have one talent, what's yours? "

I found this picture in the January issue of Vogue Australia,
in which Valentina Zelyaeva and Ben Hill take a romantic summer getaway.

This editorial is called The Wanderers, and it reminded me of this scene from The Talented Mr Ripley,
an American psychological thriller written for the screen and directed by Anthony Minghella
starring Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow and Jude Law.

The motorbike, the blonde in a trench, the atmosphere... isn't the inspiration clear here?
